In my Town, the local legislators have approved building new and luxurious school buildings and readily negotiated and approved current teacher union contracts as well as future retirement income and retiree health insurance benefits to the extent that several people in this town can no longer afford the property taxes on their homes and must sell. The unfunded liability for the government employee and retiree benefits is just starting to be understood. Those who OK'd all this largess didn't care what it meant for the future. They gave away the benefits but ignored the problem of paying for them. They just wanted to get re-elected and get many of the same benefits. They were, and are, incompetent, cowards and, in my opinion, guilty of criminal negligence.
The same failing extends to ALL the States and the Federal government. Each year the problem got worse and each year the politicians passed it on to the next election cycle. They ignored it all until now it may well drown America in its vast pool of waste and corruption.
Our politicians- all parties - have bankrupted America and worse, sold our childrens' and grandchildrens' future labor, income and wealth to China and Japan.
What can be done? I don't really know. I believe that throwing as many Liberal/Democrats out of office is a good start. Throwing every Republican who fails to understand and abide by the Constitution and Conservative values out of office is the next step. Cutting government to the bone is a necessity. Get rid of all the departments, programs, give-aways, bureaucratic nonsense now. Cut State and Federal payroll by 50%.
I do not overlook the fact that it is we - the public - who let these political viruses do anything they wanted to with nary a whimper from us. Perhaps it is not to late.
